牛皮卡紙，我國稱為箱板紙，是紙箱用紙的主要紙種之一。國產箱板紙分為優等品、一等品、合格品三個等級。牛皮紙的質地堅韌，耐破度、環壓強度和撕裂度要高，此外還要具有較高的抗水性。由于工藝及用料的不同，總的來說，大部分進口牛皮卡紙的質量要好于國產牛皮紙，尤其以美國產牛卡的質量為佳。檢測項目有：定量、厚度、緊度、耐破度、耐破指數、環壓強度、橫向環壓指數、裂斷長、撕裂度、施膠度、水分、橫幅定量差、橫向耐折度等等。

瓦楞原紙是生產瓦楞紙板的重要組成材料之一。瓦楞原紙要求纖維結合強度好，紙面平整，有較好的緊度和挺度，要求有一定的彈性，以保證制成的紙箱具有防震和耐壓能力。此外對水分指標要加以控制，水分過小，紙脆，瓦楞加工時會發生破裂；水分過大，紙軟，會給加工成型帶來困難。一般紙的含水量應控制在10％左右為宜。國產瓦楞原紙分為A、B、C、D四個等級。
